Summer Workshops

With the generous support of the International Foundation for Research in Experimental Economics (IFREE), ICES conducts separate workshops for graduate students and local area high school students.

This April IFREE will sponsor a Graduate Student Seminar on Experimental Economics and Spontaneous Orders at ICES.  The purpose of the seminar is to expose PhD student to the insights of the Scottish enlightenment and to introduce them to how experimental economics can inform our understanding of spontaneous orders.

Each participant is responsible for their own travel to and from the workshop.   Local hotel arrangements will be covered by a generous grant from IFREE.  Participants will also paid cash earnings from the experiments each day. Thus, as part of their learning experience, participants will earn additional money needed to offset their travel expenses for attending the workshop.  All international students must receive approval from George Mason University's international student office in order to receive payments from the experiments.

The Vernon L. Smith High School Workshop in Experimental Economics is designed to introduce DC area high school students to the study of economics using laboratory methods. This weeklong workshop will be offered once next summer.

High school students earn cash daily from participating in experiments. This is a commuter program; all students are responsible for their own travel to and from the workshop.  There is a $50 laboratory fee due upon acceptance.  IFREE provides a generous grant to cover the other costs associated with the workshop.
